Man Dies in Texas Hit-and-Run on Freeway

A man involved in a one-vehicle accident unfortunately became the victim of another car accident after getting out his own car on a Texas freeway. Authorities believe speed was a contributing factor to the first car accident. He was speeding on the Northwest Freeway when his Corvette crashed into a retaining wall.

The Corvette stalled out in a lane of traffic that was still moving. The man exited his vehicle, but he was struck by a pickup truck. He was transported to a local hospital, but he died of his injuries.

The truck driver failed to stop at the scene of the collision. Authorities have not provided details about the other driver, who apparently ran from the crash site. It is not clear if he was apprehended or what, if any, criminal charges he may face. A portion of the freeway was closed after the deadly wreck, most likely to afford authorities the opportunity to begin the accident investigation and clean up the debris left behind.

A Texas Car Accident Attorney can Help Win Financial Compensation

As Texas authorities work to piece together exactly what happened, one focus will likely be on the actions of the pickup driver. The initial details about the fatal car accident did not indicate how soon the second accident followed the first or at what speed the pickup truck was estimated to be traveling. All motor vehicle operators in Texas owe a duty of reasonable care on our roadways, and that duty extends to those whose vehicles have become disabled. As evidence of the crash is gathered, the victim’s family may elect to assess its rights to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the pickup driver, based on claims that the pickup driver was negligent in a manner that caused or contributed to the death of the victim.
