Dallas Cowboy Remains Free on Bail in Car Crash Case

A car accident can permanently change the life of a victim or of a victim’s family. Texas football fans may be following the case involving Josh Brent, who plays for the Cowboys. He was the driver in a car accident that killed a teammate.

The December accident occurred when Brent hit a curb and flipped his vehicle. Speed and alcohol were both deemed factors. It was reported his blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit. He has since been ordered not to drink alcohol and to wear a monitor that measures the amount of alcohol in his system after making bail. He has allegedly violated those terms multiple times since the order was put into place.

This has no doubt been a trying time for the family of his teammate that was killed in the accident. A trial such as this that can be drawn out can make it hard for loved ones to receive closure. It was also noted that Mr. Brent is a repeat offender, although no information was given about any prior charges. If a conviction is obtained, this could possibly come into play at the time of his sentencing, though.

A Texas Car Wreck Lawyer can Help Win Financial Compensation

Any Texas resident that has been the victim of or has lost a loved one to a car accident knows the shock and horror that can take place. When facing such a trying time, a person could find relief by having an understanding of the law and assessing whether a civil suit is warranted. While this particular case involves criminal charges, the family could still look into filing a civil suit to seek compensation for things such as final medical bills and burial expenses. The emotional scars will last forever, but hopefully the financial burden can be lifted if the appropriate steps are taken.
