Texas Bicyclist Paralyzed After Hit-and-Run
Being involved in a car accident can be a very frightening experience. When that event is also a hit and run accident, the situation can take a serious turn for the worst. If a driver fails to remain on the scene of an accident, medical help may be delayed for an injured party, and the authorities may have to keep an investigation open longer as they search for the driver.
A similar accident recently took place in Texas, involving a car and a teenager on a bicycle. Reports stated that the teen was riding his bike from a friend’s house when the collision occurred. He had crossed over one street and through an underpass when he was hit on the other side. The driver of the vehicle did not remain on the scene.
It was reported that the impact caused the teen to be thrown approximately 50 feet. He suffered serious injuries due to the collision, including fractures to his head and partial paralysis. Authorities are continuing to investigate, and when the driver is found, that individual will likely face serious charges for leaving the scene.
A Texas Bicycle Accident Lawyer can Help Win Financial Compensation
The mother of the victim has expressed dismay over the fact that the driver did not stop when the accident took place. It is still hoped, however, that the driver will come forward. When the individual involved in the hit and run accident is found — whether by coming forward or by authorities — the family of the injured teen may wish to file a personal injury claim against the driver deemed at fault. Such a claim could potentially allow them to receive compensation under Texas law that could help them pay for medical care and other expenses.
