Man Killed, Woman Injured in Central Austin TX Crash
Shortly after 5 p.m. on a recent Wednesday, a horrific head-on collision left one woman’s life hanging in the balance. Texas rescue workers executed extreme measures to save her. The fatal car accident left one man dead, however, and another with minor injuries.
Local police identified one of the drivers as a 32-year-old male. Authorities claim that he was attempting to pass moving traffic by crossing over into the oncoming lane. In doing so, he struck an approaching SUV head-on. Responders had to cut through the roof of the woman’s SUV in order to save her.
Highway 290 was closed to traffic while rescue workers and authorities dealt with the tragedy. Two bystanders apparently assisted in caring for those involved in the accident. The road was reopened later that evening.
The woman in the sport utility vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a local university medical center for immediate treatment. Her injuries are listed as life-threatening. A passenger in the man’s vehicle suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately, the male driver died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
