Texas Deputy Constable Charged in Motorcycle Crash
Whether on or off duty, law enforcement officers, like all citizens, are expected to obey traffic laws. In Texas, a deputy constable was recently accused of breaking the law. He was involved in a fatal motorcycle crash that resulted in his colleague’s death.
The deputy was said to have been off duty when the tragic accident occurred. The 26-year-old man was operating a motorcycle that was carrying another off-duty officer as a passenger. Though no details were given regarding the deputy’s activities leading up to the incident, it was reported that the motorcycle crashed several hours after midnight on a January morning.
A 21-year-old female colleague who was riding on the motorcycle as a passenger was thrown from the bike during the accident. Sadly, she did not survive her injuries. Test results showed that the motorcycle operator’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. Intoxicated manslaughter charges have been leveled against the man.
Victims of Motorcycle Crashes can be Financially Compensated with the Help of an Attorney
The deputy constable is slated to face the court in late March. His attorney stated that he was released from jail on a bond of $50,000. Texas citizens who suffer the loss of an immediate family member in a fatal motorcycle crash are able to file a lawsuit in civil court when their loved one’s death has been caused by the wrongful actions of another driver. Often, funeral expenses and other costs add unexpected financial burdens to an already terrible situation, and any compensation awarded by the court could help alleviate some of those burdens.
