5-Year-Old Dies in Car Crash, Cell Phone Use Involved
A Denton, Texas police officer recently spoke out, warning holiday drivers to put down their phone devices when behind their wheel of their automobiles. His words of caution came in response to a fatal car accident which took the life of a 5-year-old girl on Christmas Eve. The wreck occurred on Interstate 35 on the shoulder of the road where troopers were manning a traffic stop.
The young girl’s parents and 8-year-old brother were traveling with her. Their vehicle was headed southbound in the lane when they approached the Public Safety Trooper’s spot, which was causing the flow of traffic to slow down. When the driver of the family’s car came to the stop, they were hit from behind by another vehicle.
The police spokesman reported a possibility that the driver of the second vehicle was using a cellular phone when the collision took place. The investigation of the accident is ongoing, and it is unknown whether charges will be brought against the driver. The identity of those involved in the crash has not been shared with the public.
The responding officer stated that all he could think of when he received the telephone call regarding the tragedy was his own children. He lamented that it is a sad situation when something like this happens during the Christmas season. The officer also reminded drivers that when a life is lost in an accident due to someone’s negligence, it is a memory that will have to be lived with for the rest of his or her life. Hence, he urged all drivers to put down their phones while driving.
It was reported that the young girl was flown to a Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her family members, as well as the driver of the vehicle that hit them, were taken by ambulance to a local emergency room. No details have been provided concerning their conditions.
A Car Wreck Attorney can Help Win Financial Compensation
