Houston Drunk Driver Causes Fatal Accident
Careless and impaired drivers are dangers to everyone on the roadways, including to themselves. When impaired drivers get behind the wheel, they are not always able to react as quickly as normal and may make driving mistakes that could lead to a fatal car accident. Whether the mistake is driving at high rates of speed, failing to maintain a proper lane or any number of other violations, a serious accident can occur more quickly than expected.
A fatal accident occurred in Texas after a driver entered the freeway going the wrong way. Reports indicate that the driver was travelling at a high rate of speed when she struck a vehicle containing two occupants. The driver of the second vehicle tried to avoid the first vehicle but was unable to. The passenger in the second vehicle sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was declared dead at an area hospital.
A motorcycle was also involved in a collision with the vehicle travelling the wrong way after the initial crash. The motorcyclist sustained a broken leg in the incident. The driver of the first vehicle also sustained minor injuries. That driver was later taken into custody after authorities believed she was intoxicated, and she is currently facing charges of intoxication manslaughter.
If the driver had not made the mistake of getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, the fatal car accident may not have happened. Unfortunately, it did occur and an innocent life was lost. The family of the victim is undoubtedly facing much hardship as they begin the grieving process. Finding ways to ease their suffering may be a difficult task, but gathering information on Texas wrongful death laws could be a beneficial first step in gaining possible compensation for the loss of their loved one and other resulting damages, if the family believes it to be the right direction to move in.
