November Marks 12 Years of Fatal Texas Car Accidents

For 12 straight years in the state of Texas, someone has died in a car accident. Since Nov. 2000, over 41,000 people have died in a fatal auto accident. Just in 2012 alone, there have been over 2,500 traffic fatalities.

The most recent accident occurred on I-10 when a woman was attempting to cross the highway and was struck by a vehicle. Authorities are trying to determine whether the woman was drinking. However, in addition to this woman’s death there are thousands of other people who are victims of car crashes in the state.

When drivers get behind the wheel of a car, they assume a reasonable duty of care for other motorists, passengers and pedestrians on the road. When someone fails to obey all traffic laws or becomes distracted, a moment can make all the difference and can turn a normal trip into a deadly occurrence. Texas officials have stated that drinking and driving is the leading cause of fatal accidents in the state. The second is failing to wear a seat belt or texting while driving.

A Fatal Auto Accident Lawyer can Help Win Financial Compensation

A fatal auto accident affects not only the victims, but their families and friends. When someone does not obey the law, they could be held both criminally and civilly liable. There hasn’t been a year in over a decade where someone hasn’t lost their life in a fatal auto accident. From the reasons listed by Texas state officials, the majority of those reasons are preventable. Getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or choosing to text while driving can result in a deadly crash that can detrimentally affect someone’s life forever.
